CARTAGO, Costa Rica, February 16, 2022 – Heraeus Medical Components, one of the industry’s leading contract medical device manufacturers, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, February 11, to announce the expansion of its Costa Rica site.
The site, located in Cartago, currently manufactures guidewires, leads, and snare kits, playing a major role in Heraeus Medical Components’ Finished Devices business line. This expansion enables Heraeus Medical Components to bring in more long-term manufacturing projects to this location, which has achieved world-class operational metrics since its opening in 2018, with this Phase 2 expansion in mind.
In executing this planned growth roadmap, Heraeus Medical Components will double the site’s size to over 10,000 m2 (approximately 108,000 square feet). Additionally, the site is projected to add approximately 200 new jobs, with the majority of these roles being sourced and located in Cartago.
Rene Cardona, General Manager at Costa Rica’s site, states, “This location gives an ideal site for expansion at Heraeus Medical Components. In Cartago, we have a skilled labor force and a large talent pool, along with proximity to our customers. As a company, we prioritize providing service excellence to those customers, and this new building will allow us to serve them better while minimizing supply chain issues along the way.”
Peter Reimer, President of Heraeus Medical Components, sees the expansion as an opportunity to explore new ways to support current and future partnerships. He states, “As our vision is to improve 100 million lives every year, continuing to grow as a business is vital. This building allows us to expand our global footprint, taking the next step towards double-digit growth and a greater market share. I look forward to its opening and role in expanding possibilities and making an impact for our company and partners.”
The site’s construction is planned to go through the third quarter of 2023, with a grand opening and start of operations to follow by the end of the year.
